Athletics Boosters Club raise nearly $80,000 and pledge to pay athletic "Pay to Play" fees for every student in '09-'10 school year

Fraser Public Schools' Athletic Boosters Club is proud to announce that the parent-run organization has raised nearly $80,000 to support the district's athletic programs. And to make sure that every student has the opportunity to participate in after-school sports, the Boosters Club is allocating $45,000 of its donation to cover the cost of athletic 'pay to play' fees district-wide for the upcoming school year. "With the way things are in the economy, we are very proud and excited to be able to offer this kind of help to the community," said Bev Belzyt, the Boosters Club's recording secretary. "Every child deserves the chance to take part in sports, regardless of finances, and this will ensure that no child is left out."

The Boosters Club raises funds to supplement the district's athletic budget for items like training devices, warm-up suits, and duffle bags. The appropriation of funds to pay for students' participation fees in the '09-'10 school year opens up extracurricular sports to any student regardless of their means.

"Our Athletic Boosters are very proud of the fact that they raised enough money to cover what we normally collect in athletic activity fees," said Fraser Schools' Superintendent Rick Repicky. "This effort is in recognition of the difficult economic times we are in and I see it as the ultimate Boosters gift to families."

From elementary school recess to organized high school sports, athletics during your child’s academic career play a defining role in helping them grow into strong, healthy and confident young adults. The Athletics Department places a huge emphasis on participation at every level of education in order to foster critical hand-eye coordination, boost self-confidence and maintain a healthy body.

The benefits of physical education are widely known, which is why Fraser is committed to maintaining a variety of offerings to our students. In fact, by way of a generous donation from the Fraser Athletics Boosters Club, all students are able to participate in any sport they choose without having to pay “participation fees” for the 2009-2010 academic year. This ensures all students are able to take part regardless of their financial means.

Brad Robinson, Fraser High School’s Athletic Director, who is naturally passionate about sports, is equally as passionate about the secondary benefits that athletics provide.

“As important as the health benefits are, the intangibles that are learned through athletics are life-building assets,” Robsinson said. “I believe our teams experience a variety of situations, circumstances, opportunity and challenges – from successful to routine to difficult – that closely mimic life’s opportunities and challenges.”

Elementary athletics introduce children to the concept of organized sports while promoting good health habits that can last a lifetime. Traditional organized sports begin at the middle school level, and include: football; boys and girls basketball; girls volleyball; and boys and girls track.
