In an era of shrinking budgets, Fraser
Public Schools has remained committed to the arts and humanities
as an integral part of your child’s overall education.
The ability to express creativity through the medium of art
is fundamental for your child’s well-being as well as
shaping their critical thinking skills. The Arts Program at
Fraser is widely recognized as one of the best in the State
of Michigan due in large measure to maintaining our commitment
to providing and enhancing various offerings to our students.
Arts are more than just paint to canvas.
The Arts Programs include music, band, choir and drama, as
well as more traditional art classes like drawing, painting
and sculpture. From elementary through high school, the arts
allow our students to express themselves and grow their identities
through creativity and passion. We nurture talent and recognize
that the arts, and its appreciation, create well-rounded young
men and women who are able to face the challenges of the “real
world” with the same passion and creativity they demonstrate
in the classroom, on stage or in concert.
Research shows that the benefits of early
arts education extend way beyond providing a creative outlet
for your children. Our goals in providing arts education to
our students include: fostering imagination, promoting cognitive
and creative abilities, enhancing fine motor skills and instilling
problem solving skills – all valuable tools for successful
academic careers and successful lives thereafter.
Nationally, Fraser has been winning awards
from New York to California. The Fraser Singers, our high school’s
show choir, was invited in spring 2009 to perform at Carnegie
Hall in New York as part of a national competition – and
was only one of six schools nationwide to receive the prestigious
honor. During national band and show competitions held
in San Diego, California in Spring 2009, several Fraser
High School bands and choirs took top honors
in competition with schools from around the country.
